The name “Bellamy’s Reserve Rum” pays tribute to the legendary pirate Samuel Bellamy, one of the most successful buccaneers in history. His treasure is still lost to the sea – but his spirit lives on in every drop. Discover the unique riches of Bellamy’s world of flavor.
The Pirate Behind the Name
The name Bellamy’s Reserve Rum honors Samuel Bellamy, a true self-made man and one of the most successful pirates of all time – despite a captain’s career that lasted just a single year. In 1716 alone, he captured over 50 ships, amassing an enormous fortune through sheer seamanship and daring.
His ambition? To marry his beloved Maria Hallett, whose parents refused him as a suitor while he was still just a simple sailor. Tragically, Bellamy died on his way back to her. His flagship, the Whydah Gally, sank just 150 meters off the coast of Cape Cod – and a mere 250 meters from Maria’s home. His legendary fortune was never fully recovered.
